Of course none of that really does you any good if the watch doesn’t stay powered on. So the new Apple Watch Ultra also comes with better battery life. Apple says it can last for up to 36 hours of normal use. Which, according to Apple, is the best battery life of any Apple Watch to date. But it gets better if you use the watch’s new low-power mode. This extends the battery life up to 60 hours on a single charge. That being said, the low-power mode won’t be available until later this fall through an update. And using it reduces the usability of features like GPS and heart rate sensing. So there are some trade-offs. Better battery life is of course just the tip of the iceberg.
Apple Watch Ultra comes with a new customizable action button
One of the biggest new additions with the Ultra is the customizable action button. A pill-shaped button on the left side of the watch which can be set to provide quick and easy access to plenty of the watch’s features. Users can configure it to bring up things like compass waypoints, workouts, or launching the depth app. These are also just a few examples of what it can do.
Night Mode is optimized for evening conditions
In addition to the new action button, users can twist the digital crown to turn on Night Mode, which turns the display interface red for when exploring at night. This is only compatible with the Wayfinder watch face, and is better optimized for evening conditions as the red color of the interface is easier on the eyes in darker settings.
But wait, there’s more
In addition to some of those standout features, the Watch Ultra also comes with a brighter display that gets up to 2,000 nits. Which is 2x brighter than every Apple Watch before it. There’s also three built-in mics that help offer better sound quality, and Apple offers three different bands. Each of which are tailored to a specific type of outdoor activity. There’s the Trail Loop band for endurance athletes and runners, the Alpine Loop band for explorers, and the Ocean Band for extreme water sports and recreational divers. Apple Watch Ultra is available for pre-order today starting at $799 and will be launching officially on September 23.
