The Android 12 update for the Galaxy S10 5G is currently available for the carrier-locked version. The new version is rolling out on Verizon’s network with firmware version G977UVRU8GULD. It also brings the January 2022 Android security patch. The new SMR (security maintenance release) packs fixes for over five dozen vulnerabilities. The Galaxy A42 5G is also receiving the Android 12 update for the carrier-locked version on Verizon and Comcast’s network. The new firmware version for the midrange phone is A426USQS3BUL8. It only gets the December 2021 security patch though. So the device is missing out on some recent security fixes but that’s not a big deal. Needless to say, the big Android update for both of these Samsung smartphones will be available on more carrier networks over the next few days. Unlocked models will also soon join the party.
Android 12 brings tons of new features to Galaxy S10 5G and Galaxy A42 5G
The Android 12 update brings tons of goodies to Samsung devices. You can check out our full coverage of One UI 4.0 features to see what’s on the way. From UI overhauls to new features and enhancements, there’s a lot to look forward to. Note that some of those features are limited to select high-end models, but the majority of them will roll out to all Galaxy smartphones and tablets. This will be the last major Android OS update for the Galaxy S10 5G though. Launched back in February 2019 as the world’s first 5G-ready smartphone, the device came with Android 9 Pie out of the box and has received updates to Android 10, Android 11, and Android 12. It will now only receive security updates for at least one more year. The Galaxy A42 5G, meanwhile, could still receive the Android 13 update. Samsung promises three generations of Android OS updates to select Galaxy A series phones. But it’s unclear whether the Galaxy A42 5G will be covered under that policy. If not, then the phone has already received two major Android OS updates. Nonetheless, if you’re using either of these Samsung devices in the US, the Android 12 update should reach you anytime now if it hasn’t already. Look forward to a notification about the OTA (over the air) update in the coming days. Alternatively, you can navigate to Settings > Software update > Download and install on your phone to check for the update manually.
