Google launched the Read Along app back in March of 2019, but it was named Bolo back then. This app, as the name suggests, has digital storybooks for children to read along to. Doing so will help the children learn how to read effectively.

Now, the Google Read Along app is on desktop

If your child uses a computer for their learning, then you might want to tune them into this web app. You can click here to go straight to the page and start reading. It’s tied to your Google account, so if your child uses the app on your Google account, then they should be able to pick up where they left off on the site. Just like with the app, the children will see short digital storybooks with some lines of text to read. Your child will read those books aloud, and the app will keep track of that. If your child reads something wrong, they’ll see a red underline appear under the word. As your child reads, they’ll earn stars. It almost seems like they’re used as a currency, but they aren’t. They help mark the child’s progress. There are a few things you’ll need to know before you use this service. For starters, it is in beta right now. You might experience some bugs here and there, but they shouldn’t be an issue. Not only that but since the application can hear you, the company will be collecting some audio data from you and your child. Just be sure to read the terms of service to see how that audio data is being used.
