The Galaxy S20 FE first received the October SMR in Europe earlier this month. The initial rollout covered the 5G models. A few days later, the 4G LTE models also picked up the latest security patch in the region. A wider rollout followed soon for both connectivity variants. And this week, the new update has reached units in the US as well. Samsung only sold the 5G model stateside. The October SMR for the carrier-locked Galaxy S20 FE in the US comes with firmware version G781USQS9FVI5, SamMobile reports. Unlocked units should get the update in the coming weeks with an identical build number. The phone isn’t getting any notable changes or new features with this software release. Samsung is only seeding the latest vulnerability fixes to the device. Speaking of the latest vulnerability fixes, Samsung has already published its monthly security bulletin with the contents of the October SMR. Galaxy smartphones and tablets are getting fixes for around 50 vulnerabilities with this release. These include 30-odd Android OS patches from Google and 18 Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures (SVE) items patches by the Korean firm. SVEs are privacy and security issues that only affect Samsung products.
Samsung’s Galaxy S20 FE gets the October security update in the US
If you’re using a Galaxy S20 FE in the US and haven’t yet received the October security update, you should soon. As usual, the new software package will roll out over the air (OTA) in batches to all eligible units in the coming days. You will be notified about the update once it’s available for your unit. You can also go to the Software update section in the Settings app to manually check for updates. The Galaxy S20 FE will also get the Android 13 update. Debuting with Android 10 a couple of years back, it will be the third and likely the last major Android OS update for the phone. Samsung has confirmed that it will begin the stable rollout later this month, starting with the Galaxy S22 series. Other models will get the update, which will bring the company’s One UI 5 custom software, in the following weeks. We will keep you posted about all of those updates.
