As of this writing, the August SMR (Security Maintenance Release) for the Galaxy Fold LTE is available in France with firmware version F900FXXU6HVG5. The 5G variant of the phone is picking up the same update in the UK with firmware version F907BXXU6HVG5. The devices are also getting some system stability improvements with this release. The rollout should reach other markets, including the US, in the coming days. The August SMR is also rolling out to the LTE variant of the Galaxy Z Flip. The rollout is currently limited to the Asian region but should soon expand globally. The new firmware version for the original clamshell foldable is F700FTBS9GVH1. This phone is also getting stability optimizations with the latest update. Along with those improvements comes a plethora of vulnerability fixes. Samsung last week published its updated security bulletin and revealed that the latest SMR patches over 60 vulnerabilities. The majority of those are Android OS flaws and were fixed by Google. One critical Android OS issue fixed this month allowed a threat actor to remotely execute codes on affected devices over Bluetooth. Apart from the 30-odd Android OS fixes, Samsung has also patched plenty of other vulnerabilities that only affect its devices. Several of those were identified as critical issues. Affected components include Knox VPN, Samsung DeX, NFC, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Launcher, Smart View, Dialer, and App Lock.

The August security update reaches the original Galaxy Fold and Flip

Samsung has been rolling out the August security update to its devices for about two weeks now. Most of its eligible flagship models have picked up the latest security patch by now, although the rollout for some of them may have yet to go global. With the Galaxy Unpacked now past it, the company will soon pick up the pace and seed the August SMR to the remaining eligible Galaxy smartphones and tablets. Meanwhile, if you’re rocking either of Samsung’s original foldables, a new software update should be available to you soon. As usual, you can wait for the notification or manually check for updates from the Settings app.
