Launched back in November 2021 in beta, Expert RAW has been exclusive to the Galaxy S21 Ultra all this while. Samsung rolled out multiple updates to the app during this period, squashing several known bugs and also adding new features. But availability was always limited to just one device. During the Galaxy S22 launch earlier this month, Samsung suggested that Expert RAW, which brings professional-grade imaging capabilities to its smartphones, will soon be available to the new flagships. But it didn’t provide any ETA (estimated time of arrival). A few days later, a company representative on Samsung’s community forums in South Korea confirmed that the app will exit the beta period on February 25th and also roll out to other devices on the same day. The day has arrived. And it’s the Galaxy S22 trio that’s getting it first. If you’re holding either the vanilla Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, or the Galaxy S22 Ultra, you should now be able to download the Expert RAW app from the Galaxy Store (link below). Note that the Galaxy S21 Ultra isn’t getting the stable version (v1.0.00.29) today. It is still running the latest beta build. Samsung says the device will receive an update to the stable version on March 7. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 will pick up the app in April while the Galaxy S20 Ultra, Galaxy Note 10 Ultra, and the Galaxy Z Fold 2 will join the fun before the end of June 2022. Despite packing pretty strong camera hardware, the vanilla and Plus models of the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S20, and the Galaxy Note 20 series aren’t getting this app. That’s unfortunate, but compatibility issues, you know.

What does Expert RAW offer?

Expert RAW is a camera app for Samsung smartphones that gives users more granular controls over various photography parameters that determine the output quality of an image, as a professional camera does. It supports Linear DNG 16-bit raw output with extended dynamic range and offers features such as lossless JPEG and controls over HDR functionality as well as ISO, Shutter Speed, EV, Focus, White Balance, and other parameters. This app works with all types of cameras on your phone. The main camera, ultrawide sensor, and telephoto zoom camera. According to Samsung, an update for the Expert RAW in March will further improve its features and functionality. Meanwhile, it is now available for your Galaxy S22 smartphone.
