Galaxy A71 is now receiving the August update
The Galaxy A71 is a mid-range smartphone from 2020. It arrived with Android 10 based One UI 2 out of the box and received its first major update to Android 11 based One UI 3.1 earlier this year. As far as security updates are concerned, it is scheduled to receive them quarterly, i.e. at least one security update every three months. But Samsung has been releasing updates to it much frequently than that, so kudos to the company. The phone had received the June security update and it’s now getting another update in August. The latest update for the Galaxy A71 comes with firmware version A715FXXU6BUH1. It may also pack some user-facing improvements along with the latest SMR, though we don’t have a changelog handy to confirm that. The rollout has just begun in Poland and should expand to more regions in the coming days. As for the content of this month’s SMR, it brings fixes for over 40 security issues found in Android OS. These include a couple of critical vulnerabilities as well as some issues specific to Samsung smartphones.
Galaxy Xcover 5 is joining the party too
The Galaxy Xcover 5 is fairly new to the market, much newer compared to the Galaxy A71. Launched in March 2021 with Android 11-based One UI 3, the device receives security updates every month, much like other Xcover series of rugged smartphones from Samsung. The August update for the Galaxy Xcover 5 comes with firmware version G525FXXS3AUH1. It’s unlikely to add any new features or improvements apart from this month’s vulnerability fixes. And as said earlier, the update is already available in various Asian and European countries. As of this writing, the Galaxy Xcover 5 is receiving the August update in Germany, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Slovakia, Poland, Austria, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Kazakhstan, Romania, Slovenia, Macedonia, Russia, Bulgaria, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Greece, Luxembourg, Hungary, France, Baltic countries, Nordic countries, and Southeast Europe. If you own either the Galaxy A71 or the Galaxy Xcover 5, the latest security update is now on your way. You should be able to download it over the air (OTA) in the coming days. You can check for updates from your phone’s Settings app. Simply navigate to the Software update and tap Download and install to see if there’s an OTA update pending download.
