Sonos is definitely a luxury brand. It has some other soundbars that it offers, but they’re not what you’d buy on a tight budget. If you think that $249 is bad, then you won’t want to hear about the $449 Beam soundbar. That still pales in comparison to the $899 ARC.
What’s the deal with the Sonos Model S36 soundbar?
A soundbar is like a Bluetooth speaker on steroids, and the Model S36 fits that bill. It’s codenamed ‘Fury’, and it’s just north of 21.6 inches long. You’ll connect it to your TV or whatever you use to watch, and it’ll belch out the sound. The speakers that come built into TVs typically produce lower-quality sound compared to a well-made soundbar. There are, unfortunately, no official images of the device out, but the folks at The Verge were able to get a render of the device based on a description. In the render, we see what the Sonos Model S36 will look most likely look like with the front taken off. We see a symmetrical design with the two smaller drivers toward the middle and two larger ones on the ends. Since this is the budget-friendly sibling, there aren’t as many drivers on it as with the more expensive brethren. The Sonos Model S36 will also be missing some features in order to keep the price down. The more expensive speakers double as smart speakers with their onboard microphones, but the Model S36 won’t have this. This means that you won’t be able to use assistants such as Google Assistant or Alexa. When it comes to connections, there’s no HDMI port on this speaker. You’ll only have the optical port to connect to the display. Also, this speaker is not compatible with Dolby Digital surround sound. So, all in all, this is a speaker (nothing more, nothing less). It’s smaller than its more expensive siblings, and it doesn’t have as many bells and whistles. However, if you’ve been pining after a Sonos soundbar, but you just never had the cash, you might want to consider getting a Model S36 when it launches. This speaker is expected to launch on June 7th.
