According to the PlayStation blog, the PlayStation VR2 offers a new see-through feature that allows you to see the surroundings while wearing the headset. The feature could be activated through PlayStation Control Center or by pressing the function button on the headset. Then, you can switch between the surroundings view or the content on PS VR2. This is a quite practical feature for the times when you want to find the PS VR2 Sense controllers. Sony has also brought a broadcasting feature to PS VR2. This feature allows gamers to film and broadcast themselves while playing games. To do this, you need to connect to the PS5 HD Camera.
Sony reveals the PlayStation VR2 headset specifications
Another feature Sony wants to bring to the PlayStation VR2 headset is the ability to customize the playing area. You can use the PS VR2 Sense controllers and the embedded cameras to set boundaries for playing. The headset also sends you warning messages once you’re close to breaking the boundaries and getting out of the determined playing zone. You can change the setting and boundaries when the headset is connected. This feature is like the Guardian system on the Meta Quest 2. The VR Mode and Cinematic Mode are also coming to the PlayStation VR2 headset. Once the cinematic mode is activated, you can see the PS5 UI and non-VR games on a virtual cinema screen. This mode supports 1920×1080 HD resolution at 60Hz or 120Hz refresh rates. The VR Mode also displays games at 4,000 x 2,040 resolution (2000 x 2040 per eye). The refresh rate for this mode is either 90Hz or 120Hz. As per the specifications that Sony revealed, the PlayStation VR2 headset is much like the Meta Quest 2. However, Sony’s product can stand out from the crowd thanks to its enhanced gaming experience. Sony also says that PS VR2 game developers will “soon” get access to the latest user experience. More details like the launch date and additional games coming to the platform will be announced by the company soon.
