Having the themed icons on Android 12/13 is nice, but the only thing is that not all of the icons follow the material You design language. As stated, Google has changed its icons, but now it’s time for third-party apps to update their icons. Right now, there are a handful of apps that already use themed icons. For example, there’s Reddit, LinkedIn, Bundled Notes, VLC, WhatsApp, and Pocket Casts just to name a few. However, there are plenty of popular apps that have yet to update their icons. This could make for a pretty eclectic home screen.
Spotify is the next app with a themed icon
Thankfully, if you’re a Spotify user, you’d be glad to know that it has its themed icon. If you want to see this, you’ll need to make sure that the app is fully updated. Go to the home screen and hold your finger down on the Spotify app. Tap on the App Info button (the “!” in a circle). On the resulting page, tap on App Details. This will take you to the Spotify Play Store page. At the top, you should see the green Update button. Tap on it and the app will quickly update. After the update installs, you should see the Spotify themed icon.
How to activate themed icons
If you don’t know what the heck we’re talking about with themed icons, then here’s a refresher. When you activate the Dynamic Color feature on your Android 13 phone, you’ll see the color scheme of the phone change to match your wallpaper. Well, your app icons can follow suit and change their color based on your wallpaper. If you want to know how this works, hold your finger down on an empty spot on your home screen. From there, tap on the Wallpaper & Style button on the menu that pops up. There, scroll all the way to the bottom and activate the switch for Themed Icons. Then, you’ll see your icons change to match the color scheme. This is the process for Pixel phones, so it will vary for phones from other manufacturers.
