If this sounds familiar to you, that’s because it is. Snapchat did something like this back in 2019. However, it didn’t fare so well. Even Facebook took a crack at it a while back.
A Games tab is coming to TikTok
TikTok is a lot of things (both good and bad), but it’s never been a platform where you can sit down and play games. This will, perhaps, be the barrier to entry for this feature. According to the Financial Times (via Mashable), TikTok is getting ready to have a tab specifically for exclusive mobile games on the platform. We expect this tab to be full of games developed exclusively for TikTok by third-party developers. Right now, we don’t know what kind of games will be available or how many. However, we do know that you may be able to pay for content. So, you may be able to buy additional games or complete microtransactions within the games. Along with that, there will also be ads. When will the TikTok games tab launch? We’re not 100% sure, but the source claims that TikTok will have its first global gaming event on November 2nd. So, November 2nd could be the launch date for this tab or the official announcement. That’s not too long of a wait, so TikTok fans should mark their calendars.
Other companies are going to mobile games
Diving into mobile games makes sense for a lot of reasons. The mobile gaming market is one of the largest growing markets in the world. Mobile games made more money than console games and PC games combined last year. This is why companies like Snapchat, Twitter, and even Netflix wanted a piece of that pie. Netflix is going all in on its mobile gaming initiative with rumors pointing to cloud gaming at some point in the future. If TikTok can make a splash with this initiative, then it could be huge for the company.
