The company says upgrading will be “easy” to do, and that players will be able to do so at any time. The email comes from a user on gaming forum ResetEra. And although it’s not completely clear what prices will look like for those that are already subscribed, this does answer some of the questions that subscribers have undoubtedly had. Sony plans to release the new PlayStation Plus tiers starting in May for Asian markets excluding Japan. With Japan, the Americas, and Europe all gaining access in June. So there’s a bit of a wait before subscribers can actually upgrade to the new PlayStation Plus tiers.
Subscribers pay the difference when they upgrade to the new PlayStation Plus tiers
Sony officially announced the pricing of these new tiers at the end of March. But at the time one question remained. What do subscribers pay if they already have an active subscription? Sony’s email (sort of) answers this question. The company isn’t specifically stating what the cost will be. It does however note that subscribers pay the difference between their existing plan and the new plans. Those price adjustments will be calculated based on subscribers’ remaining time. And that’s where things are still a bit murky. If for example you have 9 months left on your existing plan, you’ll presumably pay less for the upgrade than someone who only has 2 months left. But this is merely an assumption as there are no exact costs right now for this particular factor. That being said, you can probably make an educated guess based on the listed prices of the new plans. When the new PlayStation Plus plans launch, the base cost will stay the same. $9.99 a month for PlayStation Plus Essential, $14.99 a month for PlayStation Plus Extra, and $17.99 a month for PlayStation Plus Premium. While the option to upgrade will be there, you can also choose to stick with the plan you have and stay at the $9.99 cost.
