Before, when you went onto YouTube Music on a tablet, you’d be met with the same old nonsense. You’d see an interface that’s just a mobile app stretched to fit a 10-inch canvas. However, Google has been slowly changing that as it pushes to truly optimize Android for tablets.
So, YouTube Music is getting some tablet optimizations for its settings
We’ve seen some useful tablet optimizations in YouTube Music earlier this year. It formatted its home screen for tablets. Now, the user can see more content on the home screen, making better use of the added real estate. It promised more optimizations were down the pipeline, and the company was not lying. Now, the settings are the next UI to get a facelift. When you tap on the settings, you’ll see a popup appear over the home screen. The popup is slender, so it rests on top of the UI rather than being its own page. Once you get into the actual settings, you’ll see a two-column interface. On the left column, you’ll see the list of other setting categories that you can select. On the right, you’ll see the individual settings that you can change. It’s perfect for a device with a 16:9 aspect ratio.
This should be out now
Right now, these new tablet optimizations should be available to you. If you don’t see them on your app, you’ll need to make sure that it’s up to date. Tap and hold on the app icon on the home screen and press the App Info button (the “!” in the circle). On the next page, scroll down to the bottom and tap on the App Details button. You’ll be taken to the Google Play Store page. If you see the green “Update” button up top, tap it and let the app update. After that point, you should have the tablet optimizations.
